June 1st-5th Treasure found!

With only ten school days left, I've been doing a lot of thinking about this year and our Learn Like a Pirate: Seeking Treasure theme and how fast the year has gone by. The goals within the theme included:
  • Embracing our crew: students, staff, & families
  • Where are we going? mapping our journey
  • Seeking treasure: sharing successes and celebrating!
  • Pirates tell tales! let’s read and write!
I look back at this year and am so honored to have worked alongside you in working on these ideas. I can think of so many ways in which these goals were accomplished by the hard work, dedication, and passion of each of you! Personally, I have treasured getting out of my office and into your classrooms, getting to know you and our students and finding things to celebrate! One of the teachers attending the GLAD training last week described our school as magical, and I agree. Thank you so much for all that you do to make each day magical for our students! I hope that you can look back on this year and feel you have found treasure!

Along with finishing this school year, we're busy planning for next year! Classes are built and we even have a few field trips booked already! Summer is just around the corner and I hope you have lots of relaxing and recharging planned. As I reflect on the last two years, I realized that I revealed the theme for the year on the first day back, and set out the goals for the year. Although it's true that the goals were built largely around the feedback of teachers and families, I also did most of that goal setting as a solo venture. This year, more than ever, I've realized that the leader of our school is all of us. Rather than creating a vision to be executed, in the coming year, I'd like to create space for us to build the goals together, and create an environment where all ideas make it to the table.

Dive in. Go deep!

With this in mind, I'm excited to share Dive in. Go Deep! as the theme for 2015-16! I've been thinking about what this theme could mean for us as a school, and if you'd like to think about this at all this summer, we'll be building out the goals together the first day back. Some ideas to think about and what they might look like next year: diving into data and diving into health and happiness as two to consider, both personally and professionally. Let me know if you are inspired by this water theme! In any case, I am so excited to dive in with you next year! There may even be a shark photo booth... who knows?
